Position Description The Girguis lab at Harvard University invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research position in microbial ecological physiology. This is a NASA-funded position to study the physiological and biochemical attributes of microbes in environments that may be analogs of environments on other ocean worlds, e.g. Europa and Enceladus. The primary research focus is on fundamentally understanding the evolution, ecology and metabolic activity of microbes that thrive in so-called “extreme environments”, in particular those capable of extracellular electron transfer.
The successful candidate will work closely with research groups in the Dept. of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology (home department) as well as colleagues at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and The University of Minnesota. Some travel may be required, though the frequency and duration are negotiable.
